Boston Tennis Club has won the Lincolnshire LTA Club of the Year Award 2019.

Although the annual Lindum Lincolnshire & LTA Tennis Awards evening 2020 did not go ahead due to the situation regarding Coronavirus, the winners and highly commended results were released on Friday.

The Sleaford Road Club’s achievements over the past year have included the Ladies’ First team gaining promotion to the National Division of the LTA Team Tennis League, alongside the Men’s First team, as a result of both teams winning their Midlands Regional divisions.

The captains of both these teams – Danielle and Will Mason - were both highly commended in the Captain of the Year category.

The Men’s Second team, captained by Tom Cozens, were also promoted to the Regional division.

Players that were also recognised include Will Cheer, who won the Junior Boy Player of the Year title.

Alice Gamman and Poppy Gibbons were highly commended in the Girl’s Junior Player section.

Important green developments at the club made during 2019 encompass a new solar panel project and LED lighting on four indoor courts, reducing use of electricity.

In 2019 Boston Tennis Club worked closely with children at John Fielding School, encouraging the playing of tennis and physical activity, healthy lifestyles and wellbeing, which has proved a massive success.

The introduction of a group for the visually impaired tennis has proved very successful as well as rewarding for the players and coaches.

The Boston Tennis Club Visually Impaired group were highly commended in the Disability category of the awards.

The club’s superb indoor courts were resurfaced last year for the first time in 21 years in a bright blue and green.

#Online booking has been introduced, making it possible to book courts from the comfort of your own home.

On the coaching front, Tom Cozens and Connall Newton, who have been playing tennis with the club since the age of five have passed their Level 3 coaching awards, and are now passing their knowledge on to our younger players as fully-qualified coaches.

Mike Burnett was highly commended in the coaching category.

Boston Tennis Club is one of only two recently-appointed Local Player Development centres in Lincolnshire recognised by the LTA for its excellence in coaching and it continues to be the biggest provider of competitions throughout Lincolnshire.

In the Competition category, Boston’s Grade 4 tournaments, organised by Richard Cook, came highly commended.

In addition David Makins, Boston Tennis Club’s treasurer, a key volunteer at the Sleaford Road centre, was highly commended in the Volunteer category.
